Architectural Origami Project
This project combined elements of collaborative design and coordination with architectural model-building. The basic form concept is inspired by contemporary architectural facades that resemble origami.
Our design class worked in groups of four to create conceptual designs and collectively selected the final design. Collaboration was extended to the implementation with adjacency rules regarding individual units and the advantage of working in groups to install the components.
The images on the left show the final installation and some of the modules that I built.
Early designs were implemented in any medium, individual models were designed in Sketchup to take advantage of the Flattery plugin to convert our three-dimensional models into flat templates, and AutoCAD was used for final measurements and template creation.
